From Knowing to Growing to Becoming: Culture in the Transformation Economy– Part2of2

If culture fosters wisdom, then it fuels impact in the transformation economy.
That was the thought I was left with after writing Part 1 where we explored the role organizational culture can play in creating the conditions for empathy, curiosity, lived experience and human judgement to turn knowledge into better choices, better decisions and, ultimately, better outcomes.
Those reflections led me to dive more deeply into Joseph Pine’s writing on the Transformation Economy and to think about how the way we create value continues to evolve. If knowledge is becoming increasingly accessible because of AI, then wisdom becomes an even greater source of value.
And that brought me back to culture.
I realized the increasingly important role organizational culture can play in the Transformation Economy. What if we intentionally create the conditions where knowledge can transform into wisdom, so that wisdom can contribute to making an impact?
Cultures where learning, piloting, pivoting and growing are encouraged. Where human experience is valued. Where empathy, curiosity, lived experience and human judgement are fostered so people can make better choices and decisions for greater impact.
Joseph Pine, in his recent book “The Transformation Economy: Guiding Customers to Achieve Their Aspirations“, argues that we are now moving into a Transformation Economy, where organizations go beyond goods, services and even memorable experiences to help people achieve their aspirations and become who they want to be. The opportunity is to help people improve their well-being, increase prosperity, develop knowledge and foster wisdom, find purpose, and ultimately flourish.
I see it as moving from knowing, to growing, to becoming and this is where I believe organizational culture has an extraordinary role to play.
At Rivulets Consultancy, we see culture as the operating system of the business. It shapes how people make decisions, howe they work together, how they respond when things don’t go according to plan and how they turn knowledge and experience into action.
And perhaps, in the transformation economy, organizational culture has an even greater job to do.
If transformation is about becoming, then organizations need cultures that enable people, and the organization collectively, to become who they need to be to fulfil their mission, execute their strategy and achieve results that matter so that both organizations, their people and their clients flourish.
That takes curiosity, empathy, judgement and adaptability. It takes learning from experience. It takes wisdom.
And I believe we can design for that.
When we embrace culture as a success strategy, we intentionally create the conditions that allow the wisdom already within an organization to deepen, surface, grow and inform how decisions are made and how work gets done. When you align culture, strategy and execution, transformation isn't simply something we respond to, it becomes something we are capable of creating.
Because if we aren't evolving, we're standing still. And AI isn't waiting.
So, I invite you to intentionally design cultures that enable us to learn, adapt, grow and become who we need to be in the age of AI, so that together we can achieve results that matter.
