Moving from Knowledge to Wisdom in the Age of AI – Part 1of2

Something that has been keeping me up at night is with AI making knowledge more accessible to everyone, where does that leave the knowledge workers as we move from a knowledge economy to a transformation economy?

That was my morning coffee discussion with my husband today and as I pulled in reflections from a recent masterclass I attended with Dr. Robin Blackstone at the Empathy Collective on How to Lead in the Age of AI. This masterclass left me with hope.  Yes! Hope after a conversation about Ai.   I was thrilled too. 😊

Dr. Blackstone’s experience in healthcare and the impact of Ai was insightful.  She highlighted the immense benefits witnessed from the knowledge work that Ai can do by reviewing thousands of medical cases and research for medical personnel, enabling them to have better-informed judgement and decision-making, and allowing more time for empathy in human-to-human experiences.

This left me hopeful. What if using Ai to process mountains of information creates more room for humans to do what humans do best: access our empathy, curiosity, wisdom born from experience and ultimately our judgement?

As we delved into this, I saw his face light up as he recounted the Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) abilities of knowledge vs wisdom and we both were like, that’s it! That’s another differentiator. No matter how much intelligence we have, our reasoning and memory, it’s the added wisdom, perception and insight that helps us make better choices and improve outcomes.  And for us land lovers, wisdom comes from lived experience, trial and error, essentially exercising our knowledge.

My husband went on to talk about DnD abilities of strength (physical power) vs dexterity (agility) and I had another aha moment.  Isn’t this about true of organizations? Companies can build themselves into a stable fortress, yet lack the ability to adapt and move with agility.  Evolution is inevitable, and our ability to pivot, move camp and adapt is essential to our survival.  And guess what?  It improves outcomes in DnD and in life.

AI may increasingly democratize knowledge. Wisdom, however, is cultivated.

And that may be one of the most important roles of organizational culture provides in the transformation economy: creating the conditions where empathy, curiosity, lived experience and human judgement, can turn knowledge into better choices, better decisions and ultimately, better outcomes.

At Rivulets Consultancy we believe culture is the operating system of the business.  When culture, strategy and execution are aligned by design, culture isn’t left to chance.  It brings your organization’s DNA to life through the everyday choices, decisions and behaviours that shape how work gets done.

That is culture as a success strategy: creating the conditions for more aligned decision making, great adaptability and results that matter to the organization, your employees and the people you serve.
